Fibromyalgia is not some new, fly by night, trendy, fad, disease of the week.

Fibromyalgia is not some rare, exotic disorder.

Unfortunately, most people don't know anything about Fibromyalgia, or, don't know anyone with Fibromyalgia.

The following is an update of a timeline article I wrote for FACES back in 2005, “Fibromyalgia Throughout the Ages”.

As new events occur that promote the public awareness of Fibromyalgia, expeditious diagnosis, and affordable, effective treatment protocols, I will add them to this timeline.

Fibromyalgia-like symptoms have been described throughout history.  Dr. Robert Bennett, former Professor of Medicine, and Nursing at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon, first introduced me to the long history of Fibromyalgia at a FAME conference in California.  Dr. Bennett stated that Fibromyalgia-like symptoms have been around since biblical times.

Dr. Bennett informed the attendees, eager for information, that the Book of Job actually describes our everyday Fibro existence:

Job 7: 3-5 describes the non-restorative sleep, insomnia, and paresthesia (feelings of tingling, crawling, itching, numbness, and prickling) of Fibromyalgia.

3 So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me. 4 When I lie down, I say, when shall I arise, and the night be gone? and I am full of tossings to and fro unto the dawning of the day. 5 My flesh is clothed with worms and clouds of dust; my skin is broken and become loathsome.” [1]

Job 30: 16-17 expresses debilitating fatigue, depression, and the unrelenting, diffuse pain and stiffness of Fibro.

16 And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.  17 My bones are pierced in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest.” [2]
